Praying the Word

Praying the Word

"If ye abide in me and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will and it shall be done unto you." John 15:7

Oh how I love this verse! It's short but there's so much to unpack here.  The truth is, many of us skip to the asking part and skim over the abiding part.

What does the word abide mean?

Abide; to accept or act in accordance with. A few synonyms for abide are, to obey, follow, accept, uphold, heed, conform to.

Now, unless we learn to abide in Christ (obey, and uphold all that he commands of us) then the asking part isn't activated. You don't get a pass because you're a nice person and say you love the Lord. If you love him, then you will obey him, and when you obey him, then you are abiding in him.

Isn't it funny how it all goes together!

For me, praying through the word starts there.  Allowing the word of God to abide in you, creates the perfect recipe for effective prayer.

Effective prayer, is using the word of God and allowing it to penetrate into your heart, which then allows those words to become your thoughts and those thoughts to become your prayers.

This circles back to abiding in Him and allowing His words to abide in you. Now what comes next is beautiful!

"Ye shall ask what ye will and it shall be done", meaning pray according to the will of the Father and it shall be done.

We all know that God is not a genie BUT if you're abiding in Him and His words are in you, then you know Him, well and know what and how to pray. The spiritual connection is there.

So how does one get to this point? This point of spiritual connection with the Heavenly Father?

Read His word daily. Be consistent.

Even if it's the same few scriptures, read until it sparks a spiritual awakening. Ask God to give you ears to hear!

"I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me." Proverbs 8:17

"And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart." Jeremiah 29:13

God desires for us to seek him continuously, until his words (scripture) becomes our own - prayers.

XO, Jessica
